Casa Nova Bakery Cafe opened its doors in October 2008. Since then, the word has been getting out on where to go for freshly baked Portuguese buns, pastries and of course great food. Perfecting authentic Portuguese buns has been a labour of love for John Medeiros, owner and chef of Casa Nova Catering. Portuguese buns are often imitated in supermarkets by adding a dusting of flour on the outside of the bun, however until you`ve had authentic Portuguese bread you don`t know what you`ve been missing. “It is a bit of art and a science” speaking to what it takes to make these tasty buns which should be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Vancouver Island’s only Portuguese Bakery make their scrumptious breads daily from Monday to Friday from their bakery in Victoria B.C.

Another fundamental element to a Portuguese bakery is the decadent pastries. “Pasteis de Nata” or Custard Tarts are the quintessential dessert in any bakery in Portugal. These sinfully delicious tarts are now available right here in Victoria BC. You will be able to take your taste buds on a journey back to a little cafe in Portugal without even leaving Victoria.

Ilda Medeiros, co owner of Casa Nova Bakery Cafe has also taken these traditional tarts to a whole new level. Pasteis de Nata are now also available in other delicious flavours including coconut, orange, almond, pineapple and even passion fruit. There are many other varieties of pastries, breakfast and lunch entrees to suit anyone’s tastes. Try a Bifana or Portuguese Chourico sausage or sample our cheeses and specialty food items imported from Portugal. Satisfy your hunger with our mouth watering homemade hamburgers!

There is a little bit of everything here ready for you to enjoy. So come and experience what baked fresh from scratch tastes like without needing a passport!
